Description

Aberlour 10 is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks.  This 10 year old from Aberlour remains a perennial favourite, typical of the modern Speyside style and thoroughly approachable.  Not quite as full-on sherry as the 12, 16 or the A’Bunadh, the use of bourbon definitely takes the edge off the typical Aberlour sweetness. Thus giving broader appeal to more traditional scotch drinkers.  Such is its popularity that this bottling has been exported to over 50 countries.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet and full. Sherried raisins, hints of toffee and a pleasant nuttiness.

Palate: Quite full-bodied, spicy rich fruitcake, toffee notes and a creamy malty-feel and the vaguest whisper of something akin to synthetic banana.

Finish: Caramel and honey, the malt still evident and the sweet spices still linger.

Overall: Lovely and rich.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Aberlour 10

Quote 1 “Beautifully smooth. I have tried several whiskies before this, including the famous Johnie Walker. Now I have to say this whisky is a lovely smooth vanilla, caramel and slight peaty. Highly recommend it. Although it is not my favourite, you can’t go wrong with it. Easily the smoothest whisky I have tried and it is quite enjoyable, whether with ice or not. You’d better try both, see which you prefer. It has such a lovely nose and the finish is heaven.”

Quote 2 “This is extremely good value for a ‘session’ malt. Although not complex or very smoky, I found it rich, peaty, just enough maltiness and with a hint of vanilla – not overly sherried. There does seem to be batch variation but it’s a seasonal / natural product. My usual tipple is real ale, so I’m used to disasters and highlights – all part of the fun ! This malt was a leaving present from my last job, bottled Nov. 2017, it’s excellent value and moreish. Prefer with a splash of water. I can detect ‘synthetic banana flavour.”
