Description

A 2014 addition to Glen Moray’s selection of Speyside single malt Scotch whiskies, their Classic Port Cask Finish is treated to an 8 month finishing period in Tawny Port casks before being bottled.

Glen Moray is a quality malt whisky from the heart of Speyside, available in a range of ages and vintages that will appeal to new malt drinkers as well as connoisseurs looking for something a bit more special.

Their single malt whisky has been distilled on the banks of the River Lossie since 1897, just outside Elgin, one of Scotland’s oldest towns.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Creamy vanilla at the fore, joined by jammy redcurrants and blackberry. Toasted oak touches in the background.

Palate: Refreshing spice with a citrus lemon tang, golden barley and a touch of cinnamon. The port cask influence comes through with light notes of raisins and freshly picked red berries.

Finish: Rather long, with honey, vanilla and a dusting of cocoa.

What some of our whisky loving friends have said about Glen Moray Port Cask

Quote 1  “Were these offered to you in a blind tasting you’d say they were pretty decent–and for me they are of a similar standard, and depending on my mood I think the Port finish has the edge. But when you factor in the cost, you have to say that you’re getting something very good. I don’t want to get carried away here. This is not, clearly, ancient Macallan or premier cru Bruichladdich. But for your whisky punter who cannot afford grander bottles so easily, this is money well spent. I’ll say it again: this is decent single malt whisky . These two are better than many whiskies at twice, even three times the price. ”

Quote 2  “Yes, it’s NAS and probably young, but I’ll forgive that easily, considering it’s an excellent dessert whisky. Very sweet. Vanilla and even slight fruity and chocolat-y notes on the nose. Caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, lemon and spices on the palate. Excellent for such a low-price NAS.”
