Tasting Notes
Nose: Complex and sophisticated, notes of buttery toffee, malt sherried peels, dates and even a hint of peat!
Palate: Full-bodied and rich, it fills and coats the palate with warming nutmeg, sherried fruits, cinnamon and mixed peels.
Finish: Long, spicy and sweet with just a hint of smoke on the tail.
What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Glenfarclas 17 Year Old
Quote 1 “I’m not a huge fan of sherried scotches, and for me this strikes the right balance of just enough sherry influence to add that sweetness and creaminess, but not so much as to be overbearing. There’s some good depth of other stuff too (read the tasting note above, it pretty much nails it) if you let it breathe a bit. Extraordinary in its simplicity.”
Quote 2 “Even the label has a classic old school look and feel to it, admittedly I have not explored the entire world of scotch out there but when I got my first bottle of this, I loved the mouth feel and the flavours and smells that were appearing and revealing themselves.. rounded, buttery, oily, with great balanced flavours, not too sweet.
This is an exceptional whisky. Open from Scotland is superior to the export but both are delightful. Of the 100 bottles of single malt I have this is by far my favourite.”
Quote 3 “Tastes a decent amount different than the 12 year. It’s bolder and spicier with that slight hint of smoke some people have mentioned. It doesn’t taste like butterscotch/vanilla pudding like the 12 year, it’s a whole different experience. It has that trademark Glenfarclas oily, mouth coating feeling with a super long and satisfying finish. If you can find it at a good price, pick it up. If not… the 12 year old will be just fine and is at a great price point!”
