Description
An All-time classic whisky, Glenfarclas 25 is the epitome of long-aged sherried Speyside. Gorgeously smooth and silkily-textured, with rich, generous flavours of fruitcake, hazelnuts, dried fruit and a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. A thoroughly delightful dram. If you like sherried whisky, you will love this super 25 year old from Glenfarclas. It oozes noble blood and devastating class.
Glenfarclas is always a big favourite here at Oak and Barley. World class product at amazingly great value prices. Obviously not as popular as the big brands, and the packaging is always quite simple. But, there’s always satisfaction in knowing that your money is being spent on spirit and not some flash glass and fancy boxes.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Complex, yet refined, delicately peated, with fresh tempting aromas of marmalade, honey, freshly ground coffee, sherry and nuts. Some oaky tannins. A touch of menthol. Classic Sherry notes, less pronounced than the 15 year old perhaps, but the complexity is greater.
Palate: Incredibly clean central palate, but amazingly tangy. Really zingy top notes. Sherry and creamy barley, hints of gingerbread and nutty chocolate. Full-bodied and robust, the sherry and the oak fight for your attention yet neither is overpowering. A powerful nutty smokiness
Finish: Intense, long lasting, dry smoky and malty. A beautiful dark Belgium chocolate taste at the back of your mouth to complete the flavour of the 25 Years Old.
What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Glenfarclas 25
Quote 1 “Try stopping this one after just one glass! Having tried numerous bottlings from Glenfarclas this has to be one of the best and very good value for money. Keep up the good work folks.”
Quote 2 “Wow – Wonderful nose!
Warm, thick & creamy in the mouth. Sweetness gives way to a prickly warmth on the end of the tongue. This is the first 25 yr old malt that I’ve purchased & I think it’s fantastic.
My other drams this year have been Old Pulteney 17 & 21 yr old & Bunnahabhain 18 yr old & as much as I love these malts – Glenfarclas 25 yr old just has something more to offer.”
Quote 3 “Probably… the worlds best Whisky pound for pound… period. It’s incredible that this distillery can offer such an barnstorming whisky for a shade over £100 in 2017. I was in two minds whether to actually bother writing this review as it’s a real secret gem but Glenfarclas deserves praise.
I’ve been drinking Whisky for a while now and would consider myself fairly experienced. Certainly experienced enough to know that this whisky needs time, lots of it. If your naive enough to pop the cork and consume the bottle in a week or so, you’re not getting the best out of the quarter century malt. Give it time, savour it and boy you will be rewarded.
Genuinely concerned that this malt will start to catch up with some of its contemporaries on the price. E.g £250-£300. I may have to buy a case quick smart to potentially avoid huge disappointment. “
