Oban 1998 Distillers Edition
This is the 1998 vintage Oban Distillers Edition. It is given a finishing period in Montilla Fino casks for an interesting depth of flavour. In short, an excellent and deeply intriguing expression of Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Obviously, it matches the sea spray notes often found in Oban’s malts, with a dry fruitiness from the casks very well indeed.

In short, an excellent and deeply intriguing expression of Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Obviously, it matches the sea spray notes often found in Oban’s malts, with a dry fruitiness from the casks very well indeed.
The Distillers Edition of the Scotch classic malts brings a new dimension of taste and exploration to the enjoyment of single malt whisky. Each of the nine distilleries has hand selected a small number of their casks for double maturing. In addition, the whisky is matured for a second time in cask wood which each of the series has chosen to complement the unique character of the individual malt whisky. The marriage of cask-wood and whisky has always been a traditional tool of the distiller’s craft.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Outstanding. Fruity and pungent; sea salt with crushed grapes, orange zest and hints of smoke. Massively complex.
Palate: Most explosive Oban ever. Soft malt then wave upon wave of delicate yet rich fruit notes on a tide of brine.
Finish: Sweetened Jamaican coffee and oak, with an attractive malt-biscuit effect as it dies down.
