Description

Introduced as the flagship Port Charlotte expression produced by Bruichladdich in 2018, this 10-year-old single malt from the Isle of Islay is a lip-smackingly smoky number indeed. It’s peated to 40ppm, and drawn from a combination of first-fill American whiskey casks, second-fill American whiskey casks, and French wine casks.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Salted caramel brownie, flamed orange peel, a hearty whack of seaweed.

Palate: Oak-y smoke and salty sea air, paired with sweeter notes of Custard Cream biscuits and white grape.

Finish: Ginger snaps, rye toast, drying peat smokiness.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Port Charlotte 10

Quote 1 “The nose is quite fruity, sweet and extremely interesting. I would have guessed this is much lower than 50% ABV and enjoyed nosing for quite some time.

The Peat, sweet and sour balance in this Whisky is sensational. The mouthfeel gives the tingling illusion of slight carbonation combined with the accent of white grape reminds me of champagne but with fortitude. The long mouthwatering finish is alive and calmly oscillates between white pepper, salt and fruit.

Don’t be afraid of the phenol rating because it is truly harmonious with the sweet and salty tones.”

Quote 2 “I don’t usually drink whisky like this, but then it’s not usually made as well as this. This has an authentically brash, young Islay tang, with lemon in the top note and a deeply satisfying, “pretzel” finish. But it is not harsh. Well worth buying, especially at this price.”

Quote 3 “After only recently acquiring a taste for malt whisky, I found I enjoyed Laphroaig, and Ardbeg however this port charlotte 10year old is much smoother, nice and smokey more so than the Ardbeg.”

If you are into smokey whisky then you should definitely give this a try. Really well balanced with a strong punch of smoke, spices and rich vanilla along with that 50% alcohol. Will be getting this one again.
