Description
Dimple 12, easily recognisable thanks to its distinctive bottle shape, Dimple whisky uses malts from both Glenkinchie and Linkwood in its blend.
Launched at the end of the 19th century, it became the deluxe, sophisticated brother to the standard Haig & Haig blend, while in the US it has long been known as Dimple Pinch.
Whether the name inspired the bottle or vice versa is unclear, but Dimple has always been packaged in a distinctive lozenge-shaped bottle with pinched sides like a collapsed pot still.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Toffee and Spice with a slight citrus edge. A little water can help to open the nose further.
Taste: Surprisingly rough at first but quickly settling to a warm slightly smokey taste at the back of the mouth with an underlying caramel sweetness.
Finish: A fairly short finish of burnt fudge or caramel with a hint of oak in the background.
What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Dimple 12
Quote 1 “I normally drink single malt and don’t go anywhere near blends. Someone sent me the bottle as a gift, I have to say that I’m very pleasantly surprised. Very nice dram indeed!”
Quote 2 “Contrary to some opinions expressed, this is much better than JW Red. It is super smooth, sweet, with no smoke. The nose is of fruit and Sherry, with A hint of malt. The palate is incredibly smooth and the finish is short but easy. The short finish is it’s the biggest weakness. The 12 year age is evident. In it’s the price range, this is very good. Of course, it can’t compete with some higher end Scotches, but it isn’t trying to. For the price, this is a masterful blend.
Quote 3 “It is upthere among the best. I am rotating between Chivas 12, Dimple 15, Chivas 18, Wootford Reserve, Jack Daniels single barrel, Hennessy Fine and Hennessy regular. I am not afraid to admit, that there are days that I think Dimple 12 is the best of all mentioned here. And is most versatile pick of all those. And yes. If your palate likes Chivas 12 over JWB 12 (like me), then you are gonna love Dimple 15 even more than Chivas 12.”
