Description

Elijah Craig Small Batch is a premium brand of bourbon whiskey from the Heaven Hill Distillery company.  This company is headquartered in Bardstown, Kentucky. And its distillery – the Heaven Hill Bernheim distillery, is in Louisville, Kentucky.  Otherwise, the brand is sold as a straight bourbon in glass 750ml bottles, and the Small Batch bourbon is also available in glass 1.75L bottles.

Elijah Craig whiskey is made in both “Small Batch” and 18-year-old “Single Barrel” bottlings.  The Small Batch bottling had been 12-year-old but in 2016 was changed to a composite of 8 and 12-year-old to extend the inventory.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Quite thick and full. There is a beautiful sweetness with notes of toasty oak, toffee, spicy stewed fruits, a touch of resin and a lovely crème anglaise character.

Palate: Full and sublimely smooth. With notes of stewed Bramley apples, malmsey, a touch of aniseed and a hint of spice.

Finish: Good length with toasty oak notes and a creamy sweetness.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Elijah Craig Small Batch

Quote 1 “Regular Elijah Craig drinkers will notice it drinks a little hotter than the 12. But this is not a “hot” whiskey experience. The flavors are nicely balanced with honey, caramel, and an oaky-vanilla. Besides, it has a very pleasant sweetness to it that sets you up for a very nice slightly spicy finish lingers on.

My advice is: Don’t rush the next sip. Simply enjoy the lingering flavors. I wouldn’t describe it as multiple waves, but more of a ‘parking’ experience. It just stops at mid-tongue and sits there.”

Quote 2 “As with many bourbons, this one’s entry is very strong with corn upon entry but that doesn’t last too long as it sits on the lips & tongue with a generous lingering spicy oak flavor nicely complemented by a pleasant however gentle burn. I quite like it.”
