Mystery Bottle 1 – August 2019.
This is essentially how a Mystery Bottle would be listed. We might give some clues about it just to help you along. We might not.
Anyone that is playing for the prize pool would give their reviews and comments in the comments section – but your guesses have to be submitted directly on WeChat to the Oak and Barley staff account.
At the end of the competition, when the winner has been announced and all answers revealed – we will put the real product photo here with our typical listing, and your comments will stay here, published.
Description
This is essentially how a Mystery Bottle would be listed. We will probably give some cryptic clues to help you narrow down your choices. For example, if we said “There are no deers or antlers used in this brand” then you would know it’s not going to be Glenfiddich or Dalmore.
Mystery Bottle 1, for August 2019.
Here’s the clue:

Other Rules and Guidelines
With 70 points available on each whisky, and 4 whiskies each month, then there are a maximum of 280 points that can be scored each month.
In the event of a tie-breaker (two of more people get the maximum amount of points) then the effort that was contributed to a review and comment on the mystery whisky will be the deciding factor.
Anyone that is playing for the prize pool would give their reviews and comments in the comments section on a page like this – with your guess for the region, the whisky type, the distillery/producer/brand, the age of the whisky and the whisky name. All comments will remain hidden until the end of the competition.
It’s likely that whiskies would be shipped, and the competition would close 2 weeks after the shipping date. Giving everyone 7-10 days to taste their whiskies and get their notes written.
At the end of the competition, when the winner has been announced and all answers revealed – we will put the real product photo here with our typical listing, and your comments will stay here, published.
The Prize Pool
Really simple formula here. It will be (¥100 X Number of Participants) MINUS (costs of whisky and shipping) = Prize Pool Total. We expect it to break down as follows (assuming 56 participants each month)
- 1st Prize = ¥1000
- 2nd Prize = ¥500
- 3rd Prize = ¥250
Remainder of the fund (at least ¥200 each month) to be carried over to an annual fund, to be split 50:50 between the person with the highest points at the end of year, and the person we believe has contributed the most effort in comments and reviews.
