Johnnie Walker Wine Cask, coming as part of the Blenders’ Batch series. The one is crafted with malt and grain whiskies that had to mature in wine casks to create a light and vibrant blended Scotch whisky, with notes of orchard fruit and red berries.
Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Wine Cask Blend is launching in select markets from September 2017. The unique new blend is the culmination of a project, whcih started by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge. To experiment with maturation in wine casks, and continued by Aimee Gibson.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Grains and red fruits. Not necessarily grapes, but there is some cranberry there strangely enough.
Palate: It’s not too dissimilar to Red Label. Albeit with some caramel kicked in there and some softer fruity notes. It’s not sweet, so don’t be expecting a madeira finish style to this. Perhaps it was a chardonnay cask used somewhere.
Finish: The elusive sweetness finally makes a brief appearance as the finish begins to develop but is quickly replaced by the earthier, woody notes.
