Caol Ila Distillery Edition 2014 single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2014. Before bottled, it had a finishing period in Moscatel casks to impart more rich sweetness to the smoky single malt. As ever from Caol Ila, it’s an excellent example of the top-notch malts distilled on the Isle of Islay.
This 2014 expression is a sweeter, grapier tasting version of Caol Ila. And all thanks to the finish period in Moscatel wine casks. These seem to have added flavours of demerara sugar, white grapes, and some orange peel notes to the whisky. But don’t worry! There’s still plenty of peat smoke too! Besides, this is part of Diageo’s Distillers Edition range and was initially matured in American oak.
Sold out everywhere in the west. By the way, this is a MUST have for collectors.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Clear gold.
Nose: Wonderfully concentrated and clean, peaty, medicinal. With rich fruit, spicy and fragrant.
Palate: Sweet maltiness strike first, then overwhelmed by peat smoke, intense, crisp flavours and cinnamon spice.
Finish: Long, rounded, robust and multi-layered.
