- Game of Thrones Oban – Private Collection – Not For Sale
Occasionally, alcohol companies come up with some interesting ideas for marketing – Diageo did a tie in with Game of Thrones to launch a range of themed single malt whiskies, and some Johnnie Walker blends.
The single malts were named after great houses within the Game of Thrones storyline, with the exception of this one, which was named after The Nights Watch. 8 bottles to make the entire set and all were available both through traditional retail channels and in travel retail across the world.
The Marketing Blurb
Despite its members’ dark demeanours, The Night’s Watch is the light of the Seven Kingdoms; the first defence against the encroaching Long Night. This waxy, complex Oban shares that nature: behind this bottle’s dark exterior lies a substantial, yet light dram in which berry fruit and cocoa are lifted by an airy menthol note.
Tasting Notes
The initial sip confirms the richness with a wave of heavy, luxurious notes of Morello cherry pie and candied orange peel that burst open on the palate. Long and rich as it drifts into wonderful crème caramel and a gentle wisp of charred oak.
Unfortunately, this whisky isn’t for sale. It was gifted to the Oak and Barley collection by Zak, a long term friend and supporter of Oak and Barley. We have featured this whisky to let you all know that this is a really special bottle that you should look out for on your travels as a whisky collector.
