Description

Grants Sherry Cask, is a great entry level product into the world of sherry cask finished whiskies.  Finishing off a scotch in a sherry cask isn’t new.  In fact, it’s a category growing pretty good in single malt.  To have a blend finished off in a sherry cask is a new thing, and this is where Grants Sherry Cask is really starting to put Grants back on the map.

The nose is quite light and fruity. There are notes of nut oils and mixed peels, hints of honey and a little oaken note. The palate is of medium-body and quite well-balanced. There are notes of sherried peels and sultanas, winter fruitcake with spice and developing oak. The finish is nutty and long with dried fruit notes.

Good taste combined with competitive price – this gets our thumbs up.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Grants Sherry Cask

Quote 1 “As a relatively experienced single malt lover and recently financially handicapped, I found myself pining for a decent dram at a price point that fit my new limited budget and saw the Grant’s sherry finished blended on the shelf next to the basic Grant’s at a 15% premium. So I decided to take the plunge. Expectations are everything in life and I refused to allow myself to fall into the trap of expecting single malt brilliance. That being said, I approached the experience with an eye to just having a “decent” dram with dinner and to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So much so that before I knew it half the bottle had been consumed. It seemed to me to be a poor man’s Fiddich 12 with lovely caramel, barley and sherry notes on the nose and a very lovely semi-sweet palate presence that was very different from most of the very “grainy” blended whiskies that I had previously experienced. In fact, I decided that it would become my new daily dram in my new constrained budget lifestyle. I began reading as many reviews as I could find and most were not very complimentary. My own experience was very different. A very enjoyable entry level priced whiskey and I highly recommend it as an alternative to many blended whiskies and some overly hyped and pricier single malts.

Quote 2 “Has an amazing character for a blended. Is the best scotch at its price point on the market, and is much superior to many of the standard single malts. Very nice sophisticated finish.
