Penderyn Madeira Cask, in the new updated glass packaging from The Welsh Whisky Company.  The core expression at the heart of the Penderyn range, originally aged in ex-bourbon casks, this was finished in Madeira casks. So successful this whisky has been, that Penderyn has started to focus on Madeira as a preferred finish to their whiskies.

Considering the scotch whisky industry has mostly gone to chase the sherry cask style in hopes of taking a share of the success of brands such as The Macallan, and with most of the modern non-scotch whisky distilleries following a similar path, it was a brave and bold move for Penderyn to look towards Madeira when they first started producing.  It was was a decision that has made Penderyn distinctive and unique as a single malt and over the past decade, they have really mastered the art and craft.

Unfortunately, this whisky isn’t for sale.  It was gifted to the Oak and Barley collection by Jason, a long term friend and supporter of Oak and Barley, and a proud Welshman.  We have featured this whisky to let you all know that this is a really special bottle that you should look out for on your travels.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet, medium body. Herbal, vanilla, sweetness, resin, sultanas, toast. Over-ripe grape.

Palate: Thick and sweet, spices, green, biscuity. Custard.

Finish: Fresh, crisp, spices and stem ginger.
