Description

The Macallan Ruby sits at the pinnacle of The Macallan 1824 Series. As the darkest and richest single malt in range, it embodies our commitment to 100% natural colour drawn from the casks that mature our rich spirit. Glinting hues of red underpin the name of this unique whisky and speak to its intense flavours.

Every Macallan single malt reveals the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established in 1824. It is an expression of our enduring desire to go beyond ordinary, to seek out the extraordinary, and create peerless single malts.

Once filled, the maturing spirit remains undisturbed in the same casks for the necessary number of years it needs to be worthy of its destined Macallan expression. It is these oak casks that make the greatest contribution to the quality, natural colour and distinctive aromas and flavours which lie at the heart of The Macallan single malt.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Disturbed from a long sleep in a dark and quiet warehouse, European oak piques the nose before reluctantly admitting rich, dried fruits and an edgy trickle of treacle. A hesitant sweetness enters, then oak reasserts itself, burnished and mature.

Palate: A rush of ginger, nutmeg and resin herald orange, sultana and raisin with their restrained but pervasive sweetness. Clove is here and gone, leaving oak the undisputed maestro.

Finish: The finish is long, lingering and reflective.

What some of our whisky loving friends have said about Macallan Ruby 1824

Quote 1  “What can we learn from the posting of the Islay fan drama queen? If you are complete Islay fan and you need a kick from your whisky, then don’t drink Macallan Ruby. I just love Sherry cask-finished whiskies. And the Macallan Ruby is an outstanding whisky if it comes to matured in Sherry casks. Unfortunately I cannot compare the Ruby to the others of the Macallan sherry oak expressions. In comparison to Glentauchers and Aberlour the Macallan Ruby is my favorite. The surmise about the mixed ages ranges from 10yo to 15yo. “

Quote 2  “This beautiful Ruby would be labeled 18yo if it had an age statement. Better than Rare Cask. One of the best Macallans. Unfortunately little birds are singing Ruby will go out of the market. Macallan does not have enough old casks that go into this red gem. Expect prices to sky rocket. “

Quote 3  “Really easy drinking straight out of the bottle. Deep sherry flavor but less viscous than the 12 or 18. At about $200 with shipping it’s steep, but when has Macallan ever been cheap. It’s a great dram by any standard. Easy drinking with a complex notes of sherry wood, fruits, and almost a cherry liquor finish. Just buy one. You know you want it. “
