Description

Glengoyne 12, from the Glengoyne distillery.  A distillery that sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. Built by George Connel in 1833. Two name changes later, and half a dozen owners, it ended up in the hands of Ian MacLeod in 2003.

Ian MacLeod control their entire whisky making process like a fine art. Even down to picking the trees that are harvested to make their casks and managing the entire cask making process, from wood drying to seasoning.

Glengoyne 12 is completely unpeated (unusual in the highlands), this Glengoyne is soft, fruity and very quaffable.  A fine single malt!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toffee apples, a little acacia honey, nectarine in syrup and spice, supported by toasted barley in the background.

Palate: Over-ripe grapes, honeyed with hints of vanilla, coconut milk and oak spice. Light touches of chocolate ice-cream.

Finish: Long, oily finish with lingering coffee notes.

What some of our whisky enthusiast friends have said about Glengoyne 12

Quote 1  “Quite possibly the best single malt you will find at this price point. This 12 year old has so much going for it, it’s rich, complex, sweet and spicy with a medium length finish.”

Quote 2  “One of my favourites. Clean, fresh, continuous, with no lacks, prominent malt flavour that I love, medium to long finish. It is getting better after a few weeks opened.”

Quote 3  “Not me normal tipple , but very different tasting , normally I take me dram with a splash of water , this though is better neat. Somebody mentioned butterscotch and I never got that but it has a wee bit of Christmas about it. cloves or cinnamon something like that anyway !”
